Hotseat with coach Owen Da Gama

TS Galaxy FC have shown a major refinement under the tutelage of the majestic, Owen Da Gama.

After three games at the helm, Da Gama has amassed four points. He suffered a 1-0 defeat in his debut match against Chippa United before bouncing back with the bang against Maritzburg United trashing them 3-0 at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

Yesterday, the Rockets shared the spoils with Pirates in a 1-all draw at Orlando Stadium. Da Gama sat down with TS Galaxy website to discuss the positives since he took over the coaching reins.

Owen Da Gama (ODG): A point away from home, how does that makes you feel?
TS Galaxy (TSG): I was very happy with the performance of the players, tactical approach and the structure was solid. That’s what I like. It wasn’t easy for Pirates to break us down. They were roaming all over trying to get behind us.

TSG: Masilake Phohlongo netted on debut. Your take on his performance?
ODG: I was very happy with Scara. He scored his first goal on his first game. That is brilliant. We have to get him match fit. He is not match fit. You could see, he got tired. Sometimes these focused changes affect the rhythm.

TSG: What positives can you take out of this game?
ODG: Pirates is a very experienced team. They have been in this league for a very long time. They have all these experienced players, the Thulani Hlatshwayo and Happy Jele’s of this world. Yes, we have experience in the likes of Bevan Fransman, Mxolisi Macuphu and Lindokuhle Mbatha but the rest of the boys are relatively young in this league. This is where they will learn. This is where they will grow. This where they will learn not show any respect to any team. To come away to Orlando Stadium and get a point, I think, it is a very good performance. I’m very happy with the boys.

TSG: Where to from now?
ODG: There’s still a lot of work to be done. It is a process. You can’t get it right within a week or two. The more you play these young boys, the more they get experienced. Yes, we might struggle there and there but they will gain experience. These are the same boys that will win us big games tomorrow. It is all about giving boys an opportunity to play. They must learn the hard way which is to come and play at Orlando Stadium.
