Captain’s dairy with Given Msimango

Given Msimango is now a vital cog for TS Galaxy at the heart of defence. His vigilant displays in the current season has seen him earning national team call ups and recieving man of the match gongs. Msimango has been the pillar of strength at the back for the Rockets. He sat down and spoke with TS Galaxy website ahead of our encounter against Cape Town City tomorrow at 6pm at Cape Town Stadium.
TS Galaxy: Given, how do we overcome our previous two results?
Given Msimango (GM):  The past two games where we suffered two defeats, I think our performances as a team were very great. There’s a lot of positives that we took from both games. We were just unfortunate that the results didn’t come our way. We are very happy that we are creating a lot of scoring opportunities. As the last line of defence, we are not happy that we are starting to concede goals. For us, it is all about increasing on the positives and make sure that in our upcoming game which is against Cape Town City we continue to increase our efforts in attack and try and rectify our mistakes at the back. We have to try and keep the clean sheet. When we keep clean sheets, we give the team an opportunity to win the game. For us, it is just to increase the efforts on the positives and try and mitigate our mistakes as a team.
TSG: The club is going through turbulent times at the moment. How are you dealing with this period as players?
GM: We are surrounded by very good professionals. We have a good technical that knows and understand the game. They know how to help players come through everything. We have a huge base of senior players to help us through this difficult time. It is mediocre for us not to win games. We are not really happy that we haven’t been able to get a victory but at the same time we are enthusiastic and positive about the journey that lies ahead. We are working very hard and we are optimistic that the results will come.
TSG: We are going through a barren run of five games without a victory. How key is ending that run?
GM: It is very important for us to win this game. It is a must win game for us. It will set us up for the new year. It will give us a good base going in to the 2021 year. On a lighter note, it will help us to enjoy the festive as well with the win and receive some bonus as well (he chuckled).
TSG: This is our last game of the year before we face that hectic schedule in January. Surely you want us to go in that month brimming with confidence.
GM: We have a very hectic schedule in January where we will play seven games. This game will be very important to relieve the pressure from the guys and technical team. The victory will increase the moral in the camp as well. That’s why it is very important for us to win this game.
TSG: You’ve partnered with different players at the heart of defence. How have you handled that?
GM: The coach has tried a different combinations throughout the team. Not only at center back. For me as a leader or one of the leaders in the team, it is nothing different. We are all given the same instruction. The style of play is the same. The application is the same. We all go out there and give our best. We all have a one mindset which is for the team to get the clean sheets and win games.
TSG: What will it take for us to beat Cape Town City?
GM: Cape Town City are a ball playing side. Everyone knows that. They have good individuals and so do we. We have players who have the ability on the ball. On the day, it will all depend who gives more effort. It is a must win game for us. It will require more efforts from the guys and then results will come our way.
TSG: The goal at the club hasn’t changed. We still want to finish in the top eight.
GM: I’m very confident that we will achieve our goal of finishing in the top eight. It is still early stages of the season to start calling and positioning ourselves. We are slowly getting there. We will start getting points. We get points that are needed to reach that goal. We are working very good at training. Our efforts have doubled. The boys are pushing and I’m pushing. I’m confident that comes the end of the season, we will be amongst the top eight finishers.
