Captain’s dairy with Given Msimango

THE sense of anticipation ahead of the blockbuster encounter against Kaizer Chiefs is palpable.

Tomorrow, we will lock horns against Amakhosi at FNB Stadium in the DSTV Premiership.

The game will kickoff at 7.30pm. TS Galaxy took time and sat down with Given Msimango.

TS Galaxy (TSG): How is the mood in the camp?
Given Msimango (GM): The mood in the camp at the moment is a very good one. The guys are positive and looking forward to Wednesday’s game against Kaizer Chiefs.

TSG: Chiefs are a wounded lion following their defeat at the expense of their sworn rivals, Orlando Pirates. Are you guys looking to take advantage of that?
GM: Off course they played a cup game against Orlando Pirates this past weekend and didn’t get a good result. That’s make them a very dangerous opponent coming in to this game. We are very much aware of that. We’ve prepared accordingly to that match on Wednesday. Planning will come in to play and we are hoping to utilize our opportunities and the chances we create during the day.

TSG: How key, it is to keep that unbeaten record?
GM: Keeping an unbeaten record for us, will be a huge plus and positive. It will keep the guys motivated going in to the next game. But it is not something they are focusing on entirely. It is something that is keeping the guys motivated. The league we are competing in, it is a very competitive league. Anything can happen on the day. It is up to us to put our efforts in each and every game and make sure that we put ourselves in a good position on the log. We want to be as competitive as possible going forward.

TSG: We’ve beaten Chiefs before, is that going to count?
GM: The team experienced success against Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final. I think that is in the past. This is football. We are focusing on the present. There’s been a lot of changes since then. With the changes in the playing personnel, will make the approach of the game very differently. It is a positive and it is a very good thing for the team to have that we’ve won against Chiefs but at the end of the day, it won’t matter. What will matter is the effort that the guys will put in towards the game.

TSG: What will it means to beat Kaizer Chiefs?
GM: It will be a huge confident booster for the team. Playing against big teams like Kaizer Chiefs, it will give us a huge base moving forward. It will help us staying motivated by keeping our unbeaten record going forward.

TSG: How are you planning to deal with the aerial power of Kaizer Chiefs?
GM: Leonardo Castro is an exceptional player. He was for Kaizer Chiefs throughout last year and even this season but we will approach the game, the way we approach other games. Our intention is to be as competitive as possible. We are not focusing on one player. We are defending what we need to defend. We will handle it well on the day.

TSG: How does it feel to lead TS Galaxy?
GM: It’s been a honour for me to captain the side. Being a leader amongst the bunch of leaders is totally, an inspiration for me. It keeps me motivated. It is pushing me to work hard. In each and everyday passing day, I’m learning from the best. I’m learning from the technical team and the chairman (Tim Sukazi). My teammates as well are helping me and guiding me. It is a an honour for me to be able to captain the team and hope for steadfast in the future.

TSG: Thank you Given.
GM: It is my pleasure.
