Mokwena opens up about life in the bubble

30 August 2020 – TS Galaxy FC attacker, Keabetswe Mokwena took some time out of the Club’s busy schedule to share his thoughts on the unique situation he and his teammates are finding themselves in as the GladAfrica Championship season concludes in the Bio Safe Bubble put in place by the Premier Soccer League as a measure to safely conclude the season.

The Rockets went into the bubble with six matches to conclude the season with the aim of finishing in a respectable position on the table. With just one match to go this afternoon against Uthongathi, Galaxy have two wins, two losses and a draw.

The 22-year-old shared how the situation has tested the squad’s mental toughness, saying that it took a lot for players to adjust to such conditions.

“Life in the bubble has been a very good experience. A lot of the players have actually prepared themselves mentally to follow the same routine for about 20 or more days which tells you a lot about our mental strength as footballers. You can only imagine what it feels like to be locked up in one place for such a long time with very little distraction” said Mokwena.

Speaking on the team’s performance in the bubble, “Figo” as he is affectionately known said the team’s performance was decent and just lacked finishing in front of goal.

“Looking at the team’s performance throughout the bubble, we had great games and dominated most of them. However, at the end of the day, that does not win you games because we were unfortunate not to convert the chances we created throughout those games. I do however believe it is something we are working on and will be correcting”

Mokwena also stressed the importance of finishing the season on a high in their last match of the season this afternoon against Uthongathi, saying that it was important for the club to finish on a high.

The skilful winger also said he was also sharpening his goal-scoring abilities for the new season.
