Rockets join forces with MTN to fight hunger during pandemic

15 June 2020 – With football activities gradually making a return, TS Galaxy Football Club has been active off the pitch with its community outreach programmes amongst other things. Just over a fort night ago, the reigning Nedbank Cup champions put smiles on the faces of a number of families around KwaNdebele with the donation of much needed food and hygiene parcels.

Realizing the devastating effects of the national lockdown on the many impoverished households around KwaNdebele, the Club joined hands with giant network provider, MTN South Africa to make a second trip, which saw more families getting the required assistance in the form of food parcels and personal protective equipment such as medical face masks and hand sanitizers that will go a long way in alleviating hunger and exposure to the covid-19 pandemic in the communities.

For MTN SA, partnering with the Rockets in such an initiative forms part of their yearly community social responsibility initiative titled MTN 21 Days of Yellow Care where they go into various communities to provide assistance where it’s needed.

A number of families benefitted from the generous efforts of TS Galaxy and MTN which came in the form of food parcels consisting of mealie meal, vegetables, non-perishable products.

Speaking to the Club website on Sunday, TS Galaxy President, Mr Tim Sukazi said the Club can never grow weary of providing help where it’s needed as that forms part of the Club’s ethos of being a Club that cares about the well-being of the people.

“One of the core founding principles of TS Galaxy FC is to be a Club for the people and that requires us to take action in such troubling and difficult times. For this second edition of our Covid-19 relief fund efforts, we have partnered with African giants, MTN through its MTN 21 Days of Yellow Care Programme. Since the Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent national lockdown, we have realized the hardships that is being experienced by our people. So in partnering with MTN in the good work that they are already doing, the Club is able to lend a helping hand at an even bigger scale for the betterment of the lives of our people” said Sukazi.

TS Galaxy FC wishes to remind the community to continue to practice social distancing and most importantly remain unified in assisting each other wherever possible during this time.
