TSG President not fazed by away Nedbank Cup opener

10 December 2020 – Reigning champions of the Nedbank Cup, TS Galaxy were pitted against Chippa United in the opening round of the 2020 Nedbank Cup when the Premier Soccer League in partnership with Nedbank officially launched and conducted the draw of the tournament on Thursday, 9 January.

The Rockets will be away from home in the exciting clash set to take place in the next coming weeks.

An away tie for the reigning champions will certainly not be anything new in the tournament, having won all their matches away from home on their journey to lifting the title in emphatic fashion at the Moses Mabhida stadium against Kaizer Chiefs last season.

Reflecting on the outcome of the draw, club President, Mr. Tim Sukazi was not fazed by the club being drawn away from home, stating that the draw was a perfect opportunity for the club to get to meet and interact with their growing Eastern Cape fan base.

“As the fastest growing football brand in the country, we have never been to the Eastern Cape, so we welcome this draw. We have been looking for an opportunity to go to the Eastern Cape in anyway so at some point, we thought of parading our trophy there, but our hectic schedule has never allowed that. We have a number of supporters in the Eastern Cape who have been longing to see this club so when Chippa came out, I was hoping we would be the team that goes there” said a confident Sukazi.

Interestingly, The Rockets were also drawn as the away club in the final match were, they edged title favourites with a historic 1-0 victory that saw history being made in South African football.
