28 October 2019 – TS Galaxy put up a very courageous performance away from home in trying conditions at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba in an unfortunate 2-0 defeat at the hands of Enyimba.
An early goal in the 7th minute by Victor Mbaoma following an Abdulrahaman cross caught the visitors off guard as the two-time African champions took the lead.
The goal seemed to unsettle coach Dan Malesela’s troops who however did well to keep the relentless Enyimba attack at bay.
The Rockets eventually got into their enterprising style of play which frustrated the Nigerians as they stringed some good passes and build ups in search of the equalizer.
Galaxy should have found the equalizer just before recess when Tshegofatso Nyama failed to convert what was meant to be an easy finish with the keeper on the ground.
The sides went into the break with the hosts leading 1-0 in front of the loud crowd in Aba.
Coming into the second stanza, Enyimba made two substitutions to neutralize the Galaxy attack who came out firing after the break.
After seeing off the continuous attack of Galaxy, a quick counter from the hosts saw Martins Usule grab the second for the hosts on the hour mark to seal it for the Nigerians.
Even with two goals down, the reigning Nedbank Cup champions continued playing with their hearts on their sleeves, with a number of impressive build ups which were unfortunately not converted.
The return leg will be played at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Sunday, 3 November 2019.
