Following their emphatic 5 – 2 win over Ajax Cape Town in the NFD- Nedbank Qualification Competition last weekend, TS Galaxy have shifted their focus to their National First Division (NFD) campaign as they prepare to welcome another Western Cape side in Stellenbosch FC at Kameelrivier Stadium on Sunday.
It is a crucial match for Galaxy who will be looking to snap a three – match winless run in the league which sees them occupy the 12th spot on the log table with 13 points from 12 games.
Dan Malesela’s men went down 1 – 0 to Mbombela United in their previous league outing more than a week ago, with the defeat coming on the back of two consecutive draws.
Galaxy have not tasted a league victory since their 1 – 0 win over Maccabi FC in late October.
The Mpumalanga outfit will have to dig deep to overcome the NFD log leaders, who have proven to be a difficult side to beat this season.
Stellenbosch, who top the standings with 26 points after 12 games, boast a nine – match unbeaten league run, having last suffered defeat at the hands of neighbors Ajax in early September.
Among the players that Galaxy defense need to be on the lookout for is the visitor’s striker and NFD leading goal scorer, Iqraam Rayners, who has banged in eight goals for Steve Barker’s side so far this season.
The Rockets will be up against a wounded side though in Stellenbosch who lost out on a Nedbank Cup last 32 spot after a 4 – 2 penalty shootout loss to Mbombela United in a NFD qualification match last weekend.
Galaxy go into the match with a clean bill of health and no suspensions to worry about.
