A brace from Snethemba Ngidi and goals from Tshegofatso Nyama, Lucky Setelele and Siyabonga Khumalo inspired TS Galaxy to an emphatic 5 – 2 win over Ajax Cape Town in a Nedbank Qualification match at Kameelrivier Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Galaxy made their intentions clear from the first whistle, dominating possession and taking an early lead through Ngidi, who redirected Nyama’s exquisite pass into the back of the net to open the scoring just five minutes into the first half.
The 23 years – old was not done yet as he struck again five minutes later, heading home Sizwe Mdlinzo cross from a tight angle to complete his brace.
Galaxy continued their dominance which made it very difficult for the hosts, who spent the better part of the opening stanza chasing shadows, to get out of their own half.
Galaxy’s dominance paid dividends in the 43rd minute when Nyama marked his debut with a long – range goal to make it three for the hosts.
Dan Malesela’s charges took a healthy three nil lead to the half time break, and continued where they had left in the first half when they returned, piling more pressure on Ajax in search of more goals.
This saw Setelele, who was nicely set up by Mfundo Phungwayo in the 53rd minute, join in on the goal – scoring party with a low strike from inside the box to make it 4 – 0.
Enjoying a comfortable 4 – 0 lead, Galaxy looked to be taking their foot off the pedal, which allowed the visitors back into the game, and eventually pulling one back through Kabwe Rodrick in the 77th minute. Kabwe reduced the deficit further six minutes later with a header from close range.
It looked like the scoring frenzy was over until Khumalo, who came in as an 85th minute substitution, sealed the victory for the hosts just two minutes after taking into the field.
Following their victory Galaxy have joined fellow NFD sides Jomo Cosmos, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, Mbombela United, Cape Umoya United, Richards Bay FC, Witbank Spurs and Maccabi FC in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 which will be played next year.
