TS Galaxy secured a hard – fought 1 – 0 win over Maccabi FC in a National First Division (NFD) match at Kameelrivier Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Galaxy were quick to make their intentions clear, with their first scoring chance coming as early as the seventh minute through Tembinkosi Mbamba whose header forced a brilliant save from the visitors’ goalkeeper Norman Brad.
Soon after that Maccabi also came close to breaking the deadlock form a similar situation when Thapelo Tshilo’s header from Lebogang Mokoena’s curling cross went just wide of the upright.
Despite creating enough chances to find the back of the net in the first half, the two sides were locked at 0 – 0 at half – time.
The second half, just like the first, produced countless edge – of – the – seat moments from both sides as they continued their search for an opener.
Coming from a 0 – 0 draw against Royal Eagles in their previous league outing, it looked like Galaxy were headed for another goalless stalemate until second half substitute Lucky Setelele scored a brilliant free kick from the edge of the box in the 85th minute to hand the hosts their second win this season.
With this victory Galaxy snapped a two – match winless run made up of a win and a loss, and climbed from 13th to 11th on the NFD log table.
