TS Galaxy secured their first win in the National First Division (NFD) after defeating Witbank Spurs 2 – 0 at Kameelrivier Stadium on Sunday afternoon, thanks to goals from Nyembezi Setelele and Sakhele Nhlabathi.
Galaxy made their intentions clear from the get go, dominating possession as they pushed Spurs deep into their own half in search of the opening goal.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after Spurs defender Nduduzo Phakathi was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box. Setelele stepped up and slotted home to open his scoring account.
Dan “Dance” Malesela’s charges continued to pile pressure on Spurs and created enough chances to double the lead, however the visitors’ defense proved too solid for the hosts.
The visitors displayed more determination in the early stages of the second half and could have leveled the score-line in the 66th minute through Khethukuthula Zwane, whose brilliant curling strike from long range was parried away by Ludwe Mpakumpaku.
The home side regained control of the proceedings after the hour mark and made good moves forward in search of the second goal, with Thembinkosi Mbamba’s 62nd minute strike following a brilliant exchange of passes with Sizwe Mdlinzo sailing inches over the crossbar.
Nhlabathi sealed Galaxy’s maiden NFD victory with only a minute of stoppage time remaining, after dribbling past Spurs defense and goalkeeper to slot into an empty net following another brilliant exchange of passes involving Mdlinzo.
