FIRST NFD WIN ELUDES GALAXY AS THEY DRAW WITH COSMOS

TS Galaxy’s hunt for a first win in the National First Division suffered a setback as they were held to a 2 – 2 draw by Jomo Cosmos at Kameelrivier Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The match got off to a flying start, with both sides attacking each other from the get go in search of the opening goal.

Cosmos who found the back of the net first as early as the seventh minute, through Ayanda Nkosi who leaped the highest to head home Matsilele Sono’s corner kick to open his account for the visitors.

From then onwards Galaxy played with more urgency, launching a string of attacks in a push for an equalizer, which wasn’t easy to come by as they struggled to break past the visitors’ defense.

Sizwe Mdlinzo came close to leveling the score in the 38th minute however his attempt from the edge of the box went just wide of the right hand upright with Cosmos goalkeeper Chibwe Mwenya well beaten.

Despite the pressure exerted on them by the home side Cosmos managed to take their 1 – 0 lead into the halftime break.

The Rockets continued to probe in the second stanza, and were rewarded in the 48th minute when Nation Ndlovu struck from close range to level the score.

Inky Masuku should have restored the lead for Cosmos in the 64th minute, but was denied by a brilliant save from Luthando Sixhaso.

Tshepo Chaine raised the home side’s hopes for a first win this season after his 76th minute goal however their excitement was short lived as Vusi Mncube pulled one back nine minutes later for Ezenkosi to level matters.

Following their second consecutive draw Galaxy lie ninth on the log table with two points, while Cosmos occupy the 13th spot with a single point to their name.
