TS Galaxy head coach Vusi Mkhatshwa may have recently assembled his squad, but he insists that he’s convinced his boys are ready for the start of the new National First Division (NFD) season.
With just over a week to go until the start of the 2018/19 season, Galaxy are nearing completion of a tight preseason friendly schedule, with their most recent game against fellow NFD rookies Maccabi FC, whom they defeated 3 – 0 on Saturday.
“I am happy with how our preparations have been going so far, and I am confident that our boys will be ready for the start of the new season. We know that anything is possible and that’s why our aim next season is to go as high as possible” Mkhatshwa told galaxyfc.com.
With time not on his side Mkhatshwa had to hit the ground running after his appointment more than a month ago, as he had a mammoth task of assessing more than sixty players to assemble the club’s first NFD squad ahead of himself. The squad, which is a blend of youth and experience, was unveiled at Kameelrivier Hall last week.
“To be honest with you it wasn’t easy, there was a time when there were sixty players coming from different places, different provinces and even different countries. But with so many eyes around me we came up with a good squad”.
“It was a challenge because all the players wanted to be in the squad, but we knew how to select and we looked for excellence. We decided that if the boys are excellent and we could select 16 of the excellent then those would represent us”.
